Economic Development 2/2008
I still feel the the Town of Clinton has a golden opportunity in attracting more businesses to locate in town. We have had our share of successes over the last three years. Scholastic Books has located here from Marlborough and we've had the expansion of Nypro. However we have a number of empty buildings and storefronts that can be rented or leased for a reasonable price. Of course through Condo conversions we are loosing much of our industrial property base. This must be curtailed and soon. The grant funded Office of Community and Economic Development, has had success getting some empty buildings filled. This office is manned By Mr. Donald Lowe and an assistant. He is only one person though and doing the best he can. We really need more people, and feet on the street to achieve this. I am not trying to point fingers, just make proactive suggestions as to how we could bring more businesses to Clinton.
Business development should be a high priority item here in Clinton, not a secondary task. Although it is a tenuous task in really needs more attention than it can be given at any one time. It should be on the mind of all public employees, a mindset if you will. If they see an opportunity, pass along the information to a superior. This would help to foster a new spirit of cooperation and potential economic prosperity for OUR town.
